The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has completed the reconfiguration of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines that were utilized during the presidential and National Assembly elections held on February 25.

An official from the electoral body, who spoke with Daily Trust, disclosed that the BVAS has been reconfigured to facilitate their usage during the state elections scheduled for March 18.

As sensitive election materials, the machines will be transported to INEC state offices before deployment to local governments, wards, and polling units on election day.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is overseeing the transportation of the BVAS machines to ensure the operation runs smoothly and securely.

The official emphasized that the machines would be dispatched to secure locations in states and subsequently to local governments, wards, and polling units to avoid lapses or delays.

The governorship election will take place in 28 states, while the state assembly election will occur across the country.

INEC postponed the governorship and state assembly election by a week due to the delay in reconfiguring the BVAS machines following a court ruling on the matter.
